Home hero Molnar marches to maiden GB3 pole at Hungaroring, as Bedrin blasts to record time in Q2

04 July 2026

Home hero Martin Molnar and VRD Racing's championship leader Nikita Bedrin secured pole positions in GB3 qualifying at the Hungaroring on Saturday morning.

Budapest resident Molnar claimed an emotional first GB3 pole position at his local circuit in Qualifying One, lapping the Hungarian Grand Prix venue in 1m35.605s, at that point, the quickest GB3 lap seen at the venue.

Bedrin then delivered a real statement of intent in Qualifying Two, setting a record-breaking 1m34.601s to put him a decent margin ahead of the pack on the race one grid.

Q1 - The boy from Budapest delivers

Rodin's Molnar, who lives just 30 minutes away from the Hungaroring, delivered when it really mattered. Having been third quickest on both Thursday and Friday, he finally topped the time sheets at the most crucial moment. His lap of 1m35.605s came inside the final three minutes, demoting practice pace setter Deagen Fairclough by 0.076s.

While Molnar pitted with a couple of minutes remaining, Fairclough stayed out, and though he improved his lap at the final attempt, it wasn't quite enough to knock Molnar off top spot in front of a growing crowd of home fans.

Bedrin was 0.031s further back in third, and well placed to extend his championship lead in the weekend's first race.

The ever-improving Lucas Fluxa was fourth quickest for Xcel Motorsport, his best qualifying result of the season. The same can be said for Elite's Flynn Jackes, who was fifth and only 0.072s further back.

Fluxa's teammate Rowan Campbell-Pilling was just a thousandth of a second behind in sixth, equalling his own best result of the year so far.

Spa pole-sitter Abbi Pulling was seventh, 0.027s away from Campbell-Pilling's time and ahead of Hillspeed's Peter Bouzinelos. The Australian had been a figure inside the top-10 throughout testing and practice, and qualified eighth, by far his best GB3 qualifying result.

Bedrin's nearest title contender Maxim Rehm could only manage the ninth quickest time in Q1, while the second Elite car of Kyuho Lee completed the top-10, which was covered by less than a second. Race one is due to commence at 13.30 CEST.

Q2 - championship leader Bedrin demolishes all-time GB3 lap record

Bedrin then blasted to a stunning 1m34.601s in the second qualifying session for the race two grid, smashing any previous GB3 time seen at the Hungaroring.

He was two tenths quicker than Hitech's Fairclough, with Molnar third this time around.

It took little over six minutes for the Qualifying One benchmark time to be eclipsed, with Fairclough beating it initially, before becoming the first driver this weekend to break the 1m35s barrier, with an effort of 1m34.901s.

That was soon eclipsed though by Bedrin's outstanding lap, which was his only real flying attempt. Confident he'd done enough, the VRD contender returned to the pits with a couple of minutes remaining in the 15-minute session, and waited to see if anyone could beat his time.

Fairclough had closed the gap at this point, with his best time of 1m34.810s, but he was unable to improve in the final five minutes and again had to settle for second, with Molnar a tenth further back.

Pulling rose to fourth in Q2 with Rehm also improving up to fifth ahead of Fluxa, who was inside the top-six once more.

Lee, Bouzinelos, Campbell-Pilling and series newcomer Jacob Micallef completed the top-10 in the second qualifying session.

Race two is due to commence at 11.10 CEST time on Sunday morning.
