Fast starting Fairclough flies to GB3 victory in Hungaroring race one

04 July 2026

Hitech's Deagen Fairclough claimed his first victory of the GB3 Championship season with an impressive drive in the first race of the weekend at the Hungaroring.

Making full use of a quick start, Fairclough was able to draw alongside home hero and pole sitter Martin Molnar on the run to turn one, and made the move stick at the tight right hander.

The British driver marched clear in the early stages, only to see a lead approaching two seconds wiped out by a mid-race safety car, deployed when Abbi Pulling crashed at turn two at high speed after making contact while battling with Rowan Campbell-Pilling and Kyuho Lee.

Fairclough made a strong restart when racing resumed on lap 11, and held firm across the final four tours, claiming his first series victory since the Monza season finale last October.

Championship leader Nikita Bedrin moved up to second place immediately after the restart. The VRD Racing contender had been applying pressure to Molnar in second early on, but moved past when racing resumed, with a late dive down the inside at turn one.

That allowed Molnar's teammate Maxim Rehm, who started ninth on the grid, to pounce also and demote Molnar from the podium positions. The German driver gained five places on the first lap alone, before his opportunistic move at the exit of turn one.

Budapest resident Molnar had to settle for fourth, having enjoyed vocal support from the home crowd in the main pit straight grandstand.

Xcel's Lucas Fluxa finished two seconds behind the Hungarian driver in fifth, with Elite's Flynn Jackes sixth on the road, but demoted to 14th in the final result after a false start.

That promoted Jackes' teammate Kyuho Lee to sixth, while Xcel's Rowan Campbell-Pilling took seventh despite being clipped from behind when Pulling had her lap seven incident on the run to turn two.

Hillspeed's Peter Bouzinelos finished just three tenths of a second behind Campbell-Pilling, securing his best ever GB3 race result ahead of Hitech's debutant Jacob Micallef.

VRD's Patricio Gonzalez completed the top-10 from 16th on the grid. The second race of the weekend is due to commence at 11.10 local time on Sunday morning.
