Fortec Motorsports’ Alex Kattoulas sits inside the top-10 of the early GB3 Championship standings after an encouraging start to the new campaign at Silverstone.
The Japanese-Greek contender qualified 15th and 14th for the first two races, and was one of only five drivers to finish inside the top-10 in every race, scoring two ninth places in the opening contests.
After finishing fourth in last year’s GB4 Championship, Kattoulas has higher expectations than top-10s, however.
“To be honest I didn't reach my expectations for Silverstone,” he admitted. “I'm always looking to be right at the front and that wasn't the case for a few different reasons, but myself and the team are working hard to be better at Spa.”
Kattoulas is one of four drivers to make the leap from GB4 into GB3 this year, and he has enjoyed the graduation process so far.
“The jump is big but I think the GB4 gives you a great initial platform to work from so its been fun trying something bigger and faster!”
He’s not considering his fellow graduates as his main rivals however.
“Not really, all I'm looking to do is maximise my driving and working with the team to get the car in the best window, and seeing what comes from that!”
With this weekend’s Spa-Francorchamps rounds fast approaching, he’s looking forward to his first experience of the track and making further advances up the field.
“I'm definitely looking forward to Spa! I’ve never been there before so it's going to be a fun challenge for sure.
“The main goal is to improve the areas we lacked in the first round. With small improvements from Silverstone, we can make big gains and will put us where we want to be. All I'm focused on is executing that. I’m looking forward to it!
