VRD Racing's championship leader Nikita Bedrin and JHR Developments' series newcomer Lewis Wherrell claimed pole positions in an incredibly close qualifying session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya ahead of this weekend's season finale.
Bedrin secured his seventh pole of the year in Q1, with a 1m33.389s putting him 0.071s ahead of Wherrell, who held top spot late on.
Wherrell made amends in Q2 however, as he defeated fellow newcomer Fred Green by just 0.030s, with the top five drivers covered by less than seven hundredths of a second, and the top-10 split by an incredible 0.228s.
Q1 - Bedrin wins Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup with seventh pole of 2026
Bedrin went into the session knowing he needed a single pole position to secure this year's Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup and the end of year prize that goes with it.
But he was pushed all the way by newcomer Wherrell, who popped into top spot inside the final few minutes of the opening 15-minute session with a 1m33.460s. Bedrin managed to usurp him on his penultimate lap though to secure his first prize of the weekend.
Wherrell will still start his first GB3 race from the front row, ahead of Elite Motorsport's Kyuho Lee, who surged to his best qualifying result of the year in third place, 0.067s further back.
There was another starring newcomer in fourth place, as GB4 graduate Thomas Ingram Hill put his JHR car on the second row, completing a superb comeback session for the returning squad.
Xcel Motorsport's Rowan Campbell-Pilling was next up in fifth, a tenth of a second further back, and 0.032s ahead of Hitech's title contender Deagen Fairclough, who moved up from towards the tail end of the times late on. The British driver has work to do in the race though, with Bedrin guaranteed the title if he finishes inside the top-seven.
Xcel's title outsider Lucas Fluxa was next up, just two thousandths of a second behind Fairclough and 0.021s ahead of Elite's Flynn Jackes.
Rodin's Abbi Pulling and Elite's GB4 vice champion Fred Green completed the top-10, with Green the third series debutant inside the top-10 on the race one grid.
Q2 - newcomer Wherrell stuns with pole as tiny margins settle the grid
Having just missed out on pole for race one, Wherrell had no such trouble this time around, setting a 1m33.033s on his fourth lap of the session. While that time remained fastest for the remainder of Q2, his rivals got closer and closer to create one of the tightest GB3 grids of all time.
Wherrell's eventual pole margin was just 0.030s to Green, who completed an all-debutant front row for the second race of the weekend.
After a challenging first qualifying session, Pulling shot up to third in Q2, just 0.015s behind Green and 0.003s ahead of teammate Martin Molnar, who had been a lowly 12th in the opening session.
Ingram Hill impressed again with the fifth fastest time, 0.021s away from Molnar and 0.036s clear of champion elect Bedrin, who completed a top-six covered by just over a tenth of a second.
Fluxa was 0.017s further back to take seventh ahead of Hillspeed's Peter Bouzinelos, who matched his best qualifying effort of the season with the eighth quickest time.
Elite's Flynn Jackes and Hillspeed's Aurelia Nobels were covered by 0.002s to complete the top-10 in Q2, both less than a quarter of a second away from pole, while the lead 21 runners were within a second of the Q2 benchmark.
Fairclough meanwhile could only manage 17th on the grid for race two.
The first race of the weekend is due to commence at 15.00 local time.
