Hitech’s Deagen Fairclough romped to his second double win of the season, with victory in GB3 race two at Donington Park.
The Briton led away at the start, but drama came towards the end of the first lap as VRD’s championship leader Nikita Bedrin spun out of contention into the barriers at the Fogarty Esses, his first retirement of the year.
Without the sort of pressure Bedrin was able to apply in race one, Fairclough was able to run clear of the field, despite a second safety car period after a collision between Ricardo Baptista and Jack Taylor on lap eight, and claimed his fifth victory of the year.
Arden’s Leon Wilson made a strong start from fourth on the grid to run third early on, moving up to second once Bedrin retired, and hung onto the position despite intense pressure from Rodin’s Martin Molnar behind.
Molnar was passed by Wilson at the start, and needed to finish as high as possible to take full advantage of the chance to claw back ground in the championship, and banked 24 points with third place, bringing Bedrin’s championship lead back to under 100 points with seven races still remaining this year.
Xcel Motorsport's Lucas Fluxa claimed fourth place, keeping him inside the top-three in the standings, while VRD's Patricio Gonzalez finished just two tenths of a second ahead of the lead Rodin Motorsport runner of Maxim Rehm.
Xcel's local man Rowan Campbell-Pilling had a bruising race, but survived to take seventh ahead of Hillspeed's Peter Bouzinelos, with Abbi Pulling (Rodin) and Yuhao Fu (Hitech) completing the top-10.
The final race of the weekend is due to start at 16.20 BST.
