How to follow the first event of the 2022 GB3 Championship season

12 April 2022

The 2022 GB3 Championship's season opener takes place at Oulton Park this weekend (16/18 April), with qualifying and three races to look forward to, as well as two days of official pre-event testing on Thursday and Friday.

The championship moves into a new era this year with a brand new car, new drivers and a class-leading live streaming package for all three races featuring build-up and post-race analysis, plus interviews, hosted by Jon Jackson with commentary from Lewis McGlade.

Before the first races of the year comes plenty of testing at the Cheshire circuit. Here’s the full schedule for this week, and details of how visitors to www.gb-3.net can follow all the on track activity.

THURSDAY
10.30-11.10 – Test session one
13.40-14.20 – Test session two
15.55-16.35 – Test session three

Thursday's action will officially kick things off at Oulton Park, though many of the teams will have tested at the venue on Tuesday too. A total of two hours of running is available for teams and drivers across three sessions, and live timing will be available on the official GB3 Championship website. FRIDAY
09.40-10.15 – Test session one
11.20-11.55 – Test session two
14.05-14.40 – Test session three

The teams and drivers will conclude their preparations at Oulton Park, and as many as 22 cars are expected to be in testing action. Once more, full live timing will be available.

SATURDAY
11.05-11.25 – Qualifying (live timing available on the GB3 website)
14.45-15.05 – Race one (live pre-race coverage starts at approximately 13.00 ahead of the first GB4 race)

The first qualifying session of the year gets underway at 11.05 and as it has done previously, will decide the grid for races one and two of the weekend. Each driver’s fastest times will determine the grid for race one, and their second fastest times will form the grid for race two, held on Monday. The first GB3 race of the year is due to commence at 14.45, and will be streamed live in full on the GB3 website, Facebook page and the MSV TV YouTube channel. Coverage will start at around 1pm ahead of the first GB4 race of the weekend, which will then feed into the first GB3 race, while post-race coverage will include driver interviews and the podium presentations.

MONDAY
13.05-13.25 – Race two (live coverage starts at 12.45)
15.25-15.45 – Race three (live at 13.55)

As is usual on Easter weekend, there will be no track activity on Sunday, so the remaining action takes place on Monday 18 April. The second race of the weekend is scheduled for 13.05, with live coverage starting from 12.45, while the final race, the always-dramatic reverse grid contest due to begin at 15.25. Live coverage will start at 13.55 ahead of the final GB4 race, and will then feed into the GB3 contest.
