Hitech has confirmed that Jacob Micallef will join the team’s GB3 Championship campaign for selected rounds during the remainder of the 2026 season.
As Jin Nakamura steps away from the championship to focus fully on his promising FIA Formula 3 campaign, Hitech has opted to promote Jacob to the next rung of the single-seater pathway.
The 16-year-old Maltese driver will join the team for selected GB3 Championship rounds while continuing his full F4 Spanish Championship programme. He will become the first driver from Malta to compete in the GB3 Championship.
Despite being in his first full season of single-seater competition, Jacob has already made a strong impression in the F4 Spanish Championship, claiming pole position at Portimão in only the second round of the season. Prior to that, he competed in the F4 Saudi Championship at the end of 2025.
Jacob began his motorsport journey in Malta’s vibrant racing community, following in the footsteps of his father, Duncan Micallef, who rose to become FIA Top Fuel Drag Racing Champion.
A year after securing a podium finish with third place in the FIA Karting Championship – OK European Championship, Jacob stepped up to the F4 Saudi Championship. He made an encouraging start to his single-seater career, recording two top-10 finishes during the opening round at Bahrain International Circuit.
Jacob’s first races with Hitech’s GB3 Championship squad will be at the Hungaroring from 2-5 July.
